I have been trying to get the wines of Pierre Clavel into Iowa for over a decade. I first encountered the man and his wines at a Paso Robles, California, festival that celebrated wines from all over the world made with Rhône Valley grape varieties. The wines of Domaine Clavel were a revelation, but they were not available in Iowa. And so, during my years as a wine retailer, I resorted to buying the wines from Chicago and having them shipped to me for my own personal consumption! Domaine Clavel is a true family operation, passionately devoted to principles of organic farming. The Clavel vineyards are better than ever, and through conscientious hard work, so are the wines.
